Environmental Management Solutions,
LLC,
began working in January of 2002 with a group of six
trainers and eleven planners to achieve the type of
Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan (CNMP) that
will meet and exceed the requirements and
regulations set forth by law. During the summer of
2002, approximately 45 farms from 7 states were
selected to participate in the pilot program. Each
of these farms was required to go through the On
Farm Assessment and Environmental Review prior to
completing the CNMP process. Based on the
information discovered in the pilot phase, EMS,
LLC
has developed a process that will deliver to the
producer a plan that meets both the National and
State NRCS standards. This process is adaptable to
any state, any type or size of farm, and will meet
all state environmental regulations.
On June 17, 2003, EMS,
LLC
signed a memorandum of understanding with the USDA
Natural Resources Conservation Service during a
ceremony in Des Moines, Iowa. The five-year
agreement allows EMS to recommend participating
certified individuals to USDA for certification to
provide technical services in manure and wastewater
handling and storage, aspects of comprehensive
nutrient management planning and nutrient
management. Their work must meet USDA standards and
specifications for effective comprehensive nutrient
management.
This is the first MOU with a private company that
includes a training and certification program
component to help individuals and entities become
technical service providers. EMS,
LLC
certified specialists are listed on a national,
web-based registry called TechReg that is available
to landowners, farmers, ranchers and others seeking
conservation technical assistance.
