has been in the forefront of developing environmental programs and plans that help producers stay ahead of the curve on a voluntary/regulatory approach to production. By giving producers, proactive-voluntary programs they are able to better prepare themselves for their regulatory compliance visits and changes in regulation laws. Proactive producers are also better positioned to help influence those laws when the time comes.

On-Farm
Assessments

These environmental assessments, conducted through the On-Farm Assessment and Environmental Review
(OFAER) Program, which is funded by America’s Clean Water Foundation, help producers evaluate their site in five major environmental risk areas. The assessment identifies strengths and challenges within each of those five areas and provides the producer with practical recommendations to address the challenges that they might face. As a no-cost, confidential and non-regulatory service, this is a wonderful proactive measure to help producers find out where their operation fits within the environmental spectrum.

/ Expansion Assessments

has developed an environmental assessment for livestock producers to use when they are in the process of expanding or developing a new production site. The assessment evaluates: site location, manure storage and handling, land area for manure utilization, watershed impact, water supply, site infrastructure requirements, market issues and community relations.

An environmental assessment for pasture animals
is currently developed by EMS,
LLC. The assessment looks at potential environmental challenges associated with pasture animals including cattle, horses, sheep and goats. The assessment also reviews the environmental strengths associated with pasture animals.

A CNMP is a confidential document that provides guidelines to address manure management, field crop nutrients and storm water runoff. The CNMP takes a look at the whole farm, giving the producer a comprehensive look at the entire operation and its practices and trends in resource management. With
this well-documented plan in place, producers can make management decisions with more confidence.
